Support for those diagnosed with MND, and their families, across Calderdale and Huddersfield is to be further enhanced by the introduction of a new role focused on providing psychological support – and it is thanks to your efforts.
The two-year pilot will see a dedicated specialist MND psychologist employed by the Calderdale and Huddersfield NHS Trust funded by ourselves alongside our friends at the MND Association and NHS Charity.
The individual recruited will work alongside Beth, our brilliant MND care coordinator whose role you also funded and who is now permanently employed and funded by the NHS.
We’re investing over £10,000 and we hope it will continue our efforts to provide a lasting legacy of improvements to the coordination of care for those who are told they have MND, and their families and friends who need help both for themselves and to ensure they can support the individual diagnosed.
Stephen Naylor, chair of The Nick Smith Foundation, said:
“We know all too well that when someone receives the news that they have MND it has a devastating impact on them and their families.
“Care and support for those who are diagnosed in Calderdale and Huddersfield is already hugely improved thanks to the dedicated coordinator we funded, now we want to ensure there is a dedicated professional who can help all those impacted think more clearly, cope with the huge challenges ahead and make sensible decisions at the worst possible time.
“The tragic truth is that anyone diagnosed with MND knows they do not have long to live. Anything we can do to support families who have had to process that, just as we did five years ago, is hugely important and it is happening thanks to the support of all those who have donated and fundraised for the Foundation over the past five years.”
Once again, thank you for your amazing support & efforts which allow us to invest in these crucial improvements to MND care 💙
